Opalescent Harmony Run Book 2 eBook Sarah Elle Emm
One of my favorite Young Adult books in 2012 returned with a sequel that did not disappoint. Rain and her band of super-teens (that’s my tagline, not the authors) are still enslaved in the UZA. The new breed of freedoms fighters are committed to ending the tyranny of President Nicks “Tricky Nicky”, but realize that in order to overthrow her reign of terror, they will need to devise a plan and ally themselves with other rebels. Rain begins to have unsettling dreams, where she hears the voice of another young female who she does not recognize. This sends her into a panic over the idea that someone has discovered her and the resistance and is making a way to destroy them. Rain becomes more dedicated than ever to the cause and seeks to find answers to the many questions in her head. What I always like about sequels (if done right) is that it gives you the chance to gain more insight to the characters. Sarah Elle Emm does this fantastically; with smooth pacing and dialogue that digs just deep enough to each of the side and main character’s personalities. Rain, the main agonist of the tale, even goes through a rough spot with her boyfriend Jabari, which keeps her character grounded to the reader beyond her super powers. The feel of the dystopic future is layered well, with details that pull you in to the setting. To top it all off, the cliff hanger ending makes your mouth water for the next installment. Opalescent Harmony Run Book 2 eBook Sarah Elle Emm Reviews
(I received a free copy of this book in exchange for a review).
(This review may contain spoilers).
I’m not completely sure I liked this book. Although it was good to see the characters from the first book and get to know new ones, I found it really difficult to believe in the feelings Rain has for Jabari. Just to give an idea of one of the reasons why, this is an exchange early on between them
Jabari I love you because you’re a warrior.
Rain I love you because you’re hot.
If it weren’t for the romance that feels completely unrealistic, I’d probably give this book 4 out of 5 stars. There are a lot of intriguing aspects to it and I do get the feeling that Rain does care about the people around her, even if it feels sometimes that that fades when Jabari’s around. I also thought that Aleela added an interesting element… and I did find myself getting a bit annoyed with Jabari on Rain’s behalf at times.
It was interesting to have the opportunity to learn more about Nicks’ past and I found myself disliking her even more by the end of this book. I did notice the parallels drawn between the Holocaust and what Nicks is doing. One of the worst scenes is when the books and art are burned. I felt the pain of the woman whose painting was taken from her.
I had a lot of sympathy for Maha and I was glad about what happened with Darryl, even though I did think that Rain’s guilt made a lot of sense and really worked for her character. Marcello and Cole are good forms of comic relief… but it was also really good to see the more serious side to them both. I’d like to see more of them in the next two books.
There was more of a feel of real danger in this book, even though I did feel that their abilities meant that they weren’t in proper danger. I did, however, feel that the author did a good job of showing how Rain’s and Daktari’s mother’s depression affected them. And Nicks made me cringe with just how evil she seemed to be in how she spoke to and treated everyone. I found myself really worrying about Callista.
I have the next two books on my , ready to read. Even though I don’t like the romance, the rest of the book does pull me in really well.
I found the book to be entertaining, exciting and action packed! I can't wait for the sequel. I highly recommend the series to anyone who enjoys adventure and excitement!
This book was amazing throughout the whole way. It is so entertaining and exciting I didn't lay my eyes off it until I was done. Very addictive and I highly recommend this book😊
I loved this book! I read Prismatic last week for the book of the week for my book group (AARRAR) and loved that so I had to immediately buy this one to find out what happens next. This one was definitely harder to read emotionally, as I was getting more and more angry at the way the dictator-bitch was treating the mixed race zones. And I was getting angry with the characters as well... not because they sucked or anything, but some of them were hiding things and hurting others unintentionally and I spent a good portion of the book yelling at them! That's how I know the book is good, I was so emotionally invested that I was yelling outloud!! And then the ending!! WTH?? Way to leave me hanging! I hope the next one comes out soon. Very soon.
